JOLMA INJECTOR IS 'KING OF THE ROAD'
Jolma Injector 148 has been ranked the number one Poll Dorset ram in Australia on the May 2002 Carcase Plus Elite Sires index. His index of 231.46 significantly out-performs his next closest rival, which has a ranking of 218.23.
Over 8000 Poll Dorset rams across Australia were analysed in this ranking process.
Injector is a son of Kurralea 211.98 5-Star. Semen is now selling at $40/ewe dose plus gst. (see our Semen Sires)
Meanwhile, the stud's new crop of unproven rams has generated one of the most spectacular performances ever seen for the one bloodline on the Carcase Plus Male Progeny ranking.
The process has analysed some 42,000 Poll Dorset unproven rams from the 2000 and 2001 drop and Jolma progeny are now ranked 1st, 2nd, 3rd 5th and 6th on that list.
According to this analysis, the nation's top future Poll Dorset ram is Jolma Redline 89-2000. (see our Semen Sires)
An as-yet unnamed young ram Jolma 215, (a son of Jolma Injector and grandson of 5-Star), is second on the ranking, while Jolma Burnout 156 (see our Semen Sires) is ranked 3rd.

1, 2, 3 OUT OF 8000 FOR CUNDERDIN PD STUD
Two-tooth rams from the Cunderdin-based Poll Dorset (PD) stud Jolma, have been ranked first, second and third in the 2001 LAMBPLAN Carcase Plus report, which analysed growth and other carcase traits of 8000 year 2000-drop PD rams across Australia.
In what can only be described as a spectacular result for Jolma principals John and Perry Jasper, the ranking is vindication of a joining decision in 1999 when they identified the potential of the sire of each of the three top rams - Kurralea 211 - and utilised the sire in an extensive AI program.
"To achieve the first three rankings across Australia with progeny of the one sire and in consideration of the vast number of rams that were assessed in the process, is a huge boost for not only our stud, but for the entire WA Poll Dorset industry," said stud principal, Perry Jasper.
The three Jolma rams are ranked within the top 5% for growth, fat and eye muscle depth, suggesting that they are well positioned for yield based payment systems of the future.
Carcase Plus is the ranking method that is set to replace the 60/20/20 system as it is believed to better match the domestic turn-off patterns of the lamb industry, matching desired sire growth to lamb turn-off age.
Carcase Plus is specifically designed for lamb turn off ages of 6-8 months with carcase weights of 20-24 kilograms which is ideal for current Western Australian markets.
However, even under the former 60/20/20, Jolma rams have ranked first, third and fourth, confirming the strength of the bloodline and carcase traits associated with it.
"My father John saw the sire of these rams at the Melbourne Royal Show in 1999 and made the decision soon after to introduce the bloodline," said Perry.
"A number of other studs have followed suit since, but we have a full season ahead of most and arguably a very unique product on the market this year."
